Question Increased battery discharge!!!

Hi all, have error saying increased battery discharge with is also resulting in the Stop Start not working???Can this be the negative lead on the battery causing this malfunction? The battery has been tested is in perfect health?

could be one of hundreds of things from a bad connection somewhere to alternator failure, need to find the circuit that has a draw on it and test the amps it is drawing when car is locked and allowed to shut down for 3 minutes, any thing more than 0.3 amp is suspect and over 1amp is deffo
below link handy tool can plug in to each fuse holder and see what amps are being drawn
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Batte...72.m2749.l2649
if none of fuses show a discharge alternator common disconnect it and put amp meter between it,

REMEMBER THE CAR NEEDS TO BE LOCKED AND ALLOWED TO SHUT DOWN FOR 3 MINUTES EACH TIME

I have replaced the negative battery lead and ibs sensor, still get the error message displayed???

I got one of those testers you recommended Mike. It works great, thanks.

It confirmed what I suspected, the battery back-up alarm is the problem due to the old batteries in it.

cool glad i just made your day easier bud, work a treat dont they, another little trick is to put two wires with croc clips to the spades on it and can measure discharge to alternator as well or can bus can see the pulses, its usefull of anything pre eobd ie no plug in sockets for diagnostics old school stuff, i'm at that age where i was learning trade back in the 1980s just when things started to change with eobd and old school

Hi, my car has started showing the 'increased battery discharge' message again. It only seems to happen in cold weather. Had an independent Mini specialist check the battery during the summer and they said it was fine.
Interested in what you said about battery backup alarm. Can the this backup battery be replaced or does the alarm have to be replaced? And is it an easy job?
Thanks

below link explains smart charge alternators, going by how cold is effecting it i would say the battery might be a prime suspect

Thanks for the reply. That link was interesting to read.
Next question is then, is the battery straight forward to replace if I get an exact replacement? I've read that it needs to be programmed but is this the case if I buy the exact same battery that is already in the car?
Thanks

I recently replaced the battery in my wife's one. Same spec, but I did get it coded/ registered as a new battery as it can cause issues (ours is a 62 plate one). It was the first replacement registered to it since new!!

Did you replace the battery yourself and then to the dealer to code it? Or did the dealer do the whole job? And can you say how much it was?
Thanks

Battery was bought online- just over £100. Fitted in 5 mins.
Specialist charged £20 for fault code read and battery coding.(cash).

All in Surrey, UK.

It's on my 99 RAV4, so batteries well past it and not replaceable. Unfortunately no help to you.
