    Hi, got a Mini One, having emissions issue (failing MOT), been through a lot, (new valve stems, oxygen sensors & solenoid actuators but still got codes, (latest one is 288D but have had P0015, P0014, P0366 and pending including 283D). ODB plug and iPhone app.

    I think it's pointing at Vanos / timing chain.

    Is this something you could look at and could I get (rough) price and time it would take?

    hi Mike,
    2012 R57 N16 Engine.
    I have replaced the head with brand new, and it runs as smooth as a Rolls Royce,
    However, at idle, there a many misfire events on a single cylinder.
    I unplug Cam pos senor, and the misfire events go away.

    Given that this is a brand new head, I doubt it could be valve seat, stem seals as I have read in other posts.
    (I did type a more detailed log, but it was too big to post here)

    '07 R56 ran a couple of weeks ago, today it won't start. AB04, A01C, A02C; 12.6V on battery; won't jump. One key fob - the buttons don't work. Push the start button and I hear a click in the footwell panel. Dead fob battery so the CAS isn't "seeing" the key? Is it at all possible that the fob will recharge if I leave it in the ignition? Replacing the battery looks like a hideous but doable task.

    Hi Mike I have a 57 plate Clubman with 64000 miles.... occasionally blowing blue from the exhaust after idling.....I understand you might be able to help with this....how do I go about getting it assessed?

    Hi Mike,
    My wife's 2009 Mini R56 N12 with 65k miles entered limp mode, displaying error codes P0011, P0012, and P0302. A friend performed diagnostics using a small tester. Could you assist with resolving this issue, and what would be the expected timeframe and availability for the repair? Additionally, please provide an estimated quote to give us an idea of the associated costs. Many thanks

    Hello Mike, my name is Eduardo, I speak here from Brazil, I have a mini cooper 1.6 16v aspirated year 2011, I have a fault code 27F2A, I have already replaced the post catalytic converter probe once and even so it continues to record this code, I have already checked for leaks in the intake, in the exhaust.

    Hi My wifes mini 2015 R56 on Sunday went into limp mode with Drivetrain issue... Had someone do diagnostics at it today

    Had someone do diagnostics today and came up with:


    Circlip missing from the vanos exhaust side somewhere in the engine oil flowing where it should not and clip jamming up components.
    Rebuild advised /recovery advised cost to repair exceeds vehicle value likely.

    Any idea what to do next ?

    I have a 2007 Mini Cooper s 57k burning oil now gone into limp mode cylinder 4 misfire have you a rough idea of repair cost with you regards jason

    Hi Mike,
    I've 2010 R55 diesel 1.6HDi engineI can't get it past the smoke test for the Irish MoT which requires less than 1.5ppm.
    first it measured 7.5 ppm, brought it to 5.2ppm. I stripped rebuilt and calibrated the injectors, EGR valve and associated pipework stripped and cleaned, and resubmitted the car to get a test result of 10ppm.
    Have you ever heard of something like this?

    I am at a standstill for a USD2.37 part. Crankshaft dowel pin 11227542759 for an R56 N14 (VIN WMWMF73557TT83794 ) is unavailable in the US. Any chance you can source one in the UK? The engine is just hanging on a hoist for now!

    the pin that locates the flywheel and timing ring on gearbox end of crank, i have a couple of engines stored in back of unit, so yes likely to have, they are same for n12 n16 n18

    seems to be the usual oil burning problem these cars have
    no fault codes
    cannot drive around as you cannt tax it until it passes MOT
    engine has 63k miles and runs ok, bit noisy on startup but gets quieter when warm.

    please send quote to get an idea cost to fix

    car in Wantage at present

    Mike, re. our recent exchanges. I thought I’d better PM this. Let me know if you agree/disagree.
    I’ve been thinking since you said “ …. … i had a brand new 3 series diesel back 2007 that crapped its engine after 60k under 3 years and thats what I done, I avoided a 6k loss thanks to EU laws and finance rules”.
    Why did you not just claim on the BMW warranty? I think I know what you’ll say.

    was just out of warranty, they also tried using the i gave it to many oil changes , they also told me i'm in trade and most likely been messed around with unlike cars they service etc, their stance has always been blame the owner

    Hi Mike, i am going to look at a 2007 cooper on Sunday 98k on the clock full service history one owner from new, sounds like its been looked after the mot history shows its never failed an mot, the bodywork and interior look pretty mint, its up for £1699 so not an expensive car, is the timing chain thing the main one to listen for?

    also run it until gets nice and hot leave idle on spot for ten minutes then give throttle a good hard poke if get smoke out exhaust then rings and stem seals,

    Hi Mike,
    I hope you don’t mind me posting here,

    I have a 2011 n47 engine suffering with power problems, solved by turning engine off and back on again temporarily.

    4755 turbo boost actuator or egr plausibility (both changed 5 months ago)
    I have removed complete/ cleaned complete intake, still getting that problem.

    my question is do you think this may be the vacuum solenoids and vacuum pipes?

    suspect dpf issue maybe caused by the egr valve perhaps, , if vac is low they thats a sign of oil pump failing as its a combined item in the sump

    Hi Mike have an 09 R56 much loved, well maintained but its going to need its timing chain doing as its at 83k.

    How much for FIXED PRICE ENGINE REFRESH SORT OUT OIL USE AND SMOKING AND TIMING CHAIN ISSUES?
