Real World MPG's

Now that they have been on the road for awhile I would be interested in hearing some real world mpg figures for the Clubman.

Please include your driving type along with the #'s (so 70% city + 30% hwy)

Sherry, remind me did you end up ordering an S or a Cooper version?

As an aside, I've started a thread specifically on Automatics, whichever version Clubman, on NAM because it seemed as though there might be more auto drivers there - not sure if that's true. MINI COOPER :: North American Motoring - Automatic impressions, mpg and more?

thanks for covering the US BB!

I asked here as I know this board is more Euro centric with more city than highway drivers ... i would get more realistic/similar figures to driving in NYC

Hi,

I am getting about 6.3 to 6.5 L/100km = 44.83 mi/gal (UK). or 37.3 mi/gal US.

Mine is probably 50/50 highway to city, on a cooper clubman standard. I have to admit, I attempt to drive pretty conservatively for best mileage most of the time. . .

That mpg sounds pretty good to me! I don't know how long or how far you've driven your car but the mpg are supposed to improve after "break in" - yes? I'd be thrilled with 37mpg (and by the way thank you for translating for those of us who are metrically challenged. )... Since mine will be an automatic, I know it won't be quite as good as the manual.

As for driving conservatively to save money - that is called being smart, unless one's funds are unlimited.

I only have around two tanks through the car so far. And it does seem to be improving as I go along. I'm now at 6.2 l/100 average .

I am also running regular fuel in mine (87 ocatane). We live at an altitude of about 3500 to 4000 ft, so the premium fuel on the regular non-turbo engines really doesn't add much (IMO), and in my personal tests, I get better mileage on the regular fuel then premium. That may be different at sea level though.

I have found if I leave the computer alone and check it every now and then the MPG is around 35mpg and the average speed is around 23mph.
Out of interest I reset before my morning journey to work 6 miles mostly backstreets 1 short ( about a mile) 50mph dual carriageway and got 39mpg.

I would say 35 is about right overall but can do much better on motorway runs easily up into the 40s. I am saving loads on fuel though I have been filling up weekly out of convenience rather than nescessity and am only spending half what I was on the S.

Mini Cooper Clubman Petrol Regular Unleaded havent touched the performance stuff with this car at all.

I'm also surprised but happy to hear that you both, Shaun and Heli_guy, are using regular fuel and finding your Clubman does just fine - that's a major plus.

That sounds like my kind of commute so this is most certainly appreciated ... i know this is Imperial Gallons though, but still impressive.

Also for the second time in the last week I hear of people using Regular gas in the MC's ... which I thought was a no-no ... but then a dealer confirmed that the new engines are ok with it.
Owners Manual still reccomends Premium but it does not say "don't use Regular"

If I remember correctly, this was not the case with the previous gen engines.

So Regular gas + great mpg's ... that would be like $1000 savings a year for me.

Sounds about right the rule of the thumb is roughly times 1.2 UK to US .
