put key fob in dash and no ignition

got a 2011 mini cooper clubman s. went to put key in ignition and unit wouldnt power up or say there is a key in dash like normal.unit did same complaint a few days ago and left key out of ignition for 10min and unit started. worked about 13-20hr and next day no start. door locks and back doors work fine with key and battery voltage is 12.45v. any suggestions.

These keys are charged while driving. Short trips or keys unused can kill their battery. The chip in the key collects data of car while driving and is used by dealer when servicing. Must drive longer periods or use key more. Looks like a road trip might be necessary.
