Replacing the solenoid valves

Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone out there has replaced the solenoid valves on your R56?
There are two as far as I know, one at the back and one at the front of the engine.
I think that one of them is leaking oil.
Is it necessary to drain the oil out of the of the vehicle before replacing them?
Are they recoverable? ie are they possible to clean and put back? or do you generally discard and buy new ones?
Appreciate your replies!
