2016 clubman retarded brake lights

So, I have been happily driving my car for about a year, when I finally happened upon another clubman in traffic. Apparently the federal government does not allow braking lights in the movable barn doors, so the only brake lights are the high mount and the bumper lights. I feel like it is a matter of time before somebody in a lifted Chevy truck doesn't see me hit the brakes and ends up in my back seat. Anybody seen or heard of an ecu flash or wire hack to make the lights that are already where the brake light should be in the doors actually function as brake lights? There seem to be a light next to the reverse light that I cannot get to turn on.
