Fuel additive eolys 176

Hi all,

Has any one any experience with regards the FUEL ADDITIVE EOLYS 176. Either costs at the dealer or DIY. Is it possible to reset the ECU once it's been refilled?

Look forward to hearing your stories - hopefully not all horror!

Mines leaking

Mine's leaking and I've been quoted 460 for a whole new system. One revies site I found says this may be a common problem and dealers just quote you for a whole new system.

Hi All,

First post.

As with the other comments on Particle Feul Addititive, EOLYS, for the cooper D, I find information impossible to find anywhere on how to refill the Eolys tank and thereafter how to reset the display. Surely there must now be 10's of thousands of mini d's saying they need fuel patricle additive.

Does anyone know of a site or book that details how to refill it ?

I think I can see the correct EOLYS for sale in various places - but just where is it in the car and how do you refeill and reset it ?

Any help or assistance much appreciated.

You might want to try the Peugeot and Citroen forums. Search for diesel additive on the 1.6HDi engines. Peugeot and Citroen use the same engines as the Cooper D and also have the Eolys system. If I remember correctly the tank is at the rear of the car and accessable from underneath by removing some of the underbody panelling.

Resetting the light is probably the same as any other warning (i.e. Brakes).

Hopethis helps

I did my cooper D after the main dealer could not get the Eolys kit as it was on back order, from dealer a replacement 1.1ltr bag is used.

Jack up rear of car, use ramps or axle stands as a minimum, 4 post ramp much better,

Remove rear section of plastic floor cover on off side, undo to about drivers door it will then drop enough to gain reasonable access.

I removed negative battery terminal for good measure but not sure this is needed.

Just in front of the rear off side wheel is a black suitcase type box, with fuel type fittings.


Remove the fuel type fittings and undo the bolt underneath the box, be careful as mine started to spin the top nut, which you cannot get to hold.
(i ended up hack sawing the bolt and then replaced with new nut and bolt)

When its off it looks like this,

If yours is leaking its going to be a new bag, you can see where mine is just starting to show signs of wear.


Undo the bag from the green fitting, and either replace or re-fill.


Mine filled up with 1ltr not the 1,1ltr mini suggest i will keep an eye on the warning and change early, next time a new bag will be fitted as a good measure, i used a kit off Ebay 35.00 for pug, citroen etc all the same.




You cannot re-set through the cars own method it has to be main dealer, or an auto electrician it still took him 20mins to find the re-set and untill it has been re-set the pump turns off, that's once 0 miles has been reached, i have now done 20000m since doing and its fine.

I would say if you can afford the 200 or so mini want to do it then let them do it, i was stuck doing 700m a week and already empty so was worried about the DPF blocking up, if your above average ability with the spanners and fancy a challenge do it but don't blame me afterwards.

This is a guide how i did this and will take no responsibility for your actions, hope it helps though either way.

PPS you cannot back fill the bag by removing the fuel type fitting on the outside of the suitcase box while its still fitted to the car, don't know why maybe the pump stops it, but i did try.

Brilliant 'how to' for the refilling of the eolys fluid - seems pretty straight forward.

There seems however conflicting opinions on if the service indicator can be reset using the same method as the other service items (brakes etc.) of if it needs any specialist software?

Can anyone give a definitive answer please before I try this?? Cheers!

Ireland Eloy bag replaced cheap

I replaced a burst Eloy bag in a 2008 Mini Cooper D for 33. I was quoted 100 plus vat for parts only from dealer, then fitting. I ordered a ruck sack drinks bag from eBay 3 delivered ( it was better quality than original) Then bought a litre of eloy 176 from parts shop for 30. I changed over the push on pipe fitting from the old bag to the new drinks bag, then filled the bag and installed it to the car. Next reset the dash warning light as per utube instructions...job done. 1 hour to do the complete job. Big saving on dealer price. I will post a photo when I figure out how to

Hi Guys, I have just sorted out the DPF additive on my Wife's 08 Mini. I followed the instructions that were contained in this thread and to be totally honest, they were great.

I would just like to add a few details that haven't been answered though.

I bought a 1 ltr bottle of Eolys 176 (pat fluid) from Euro car parts for 30.20, as this is all you need to fill the bag.

My bag was split, so when I started to fill it, the fluid started to leak out. I wanted to get the car done the same day, so decided to buy a 2 ltr hydration bladder, made by Karrimor, from sports direct at my local store, which was on offer for 9.99.
You need a 2 ltr bag, since the bag has to lay flat in the plastic tank holder under the car.
I cut off the carrying handle and cut the tube to fit on the original connector of the mini dpf bag.
Finally, refitted everything, went onto YouTube and followed the video of how to reset warning lights for brakes, and there was an option to reset the additive light (same symbol that flashes up) pressed reset, 80,000 miles quickly flashed up and hey presto, all done.

A big thank you to all you guys on here, your information was invaluable, saved me 100's

Just hope my experience has helped more of you to save money too. The total cost for the job............40.19

Hello everyone,

Similar to Taffysblog, I too followed the instructions to replace the DPF additive on my 10 plate Cooper Clubman. Here's a list of my experiences:

1. Don't let anyone tell you the additive you buy off ebay is wrong. It isn't. The filling adaptors with the bottle (don't just buy the additive, get the filler kit too) fit the Mini exactly.
2. The biggest pain I found was finding a jacking point for a 2 ton hydraulic that gave you enough space to drop the jacking points onto a pair of axle stands at the rear. Get a piece of wood around 20-30cm long and put it in line with the plastic-covered sill just forward of the jacking points. You won't break the plastic as the load will be spread evenly.
3. The electrical connector came off in seconds; I couldn't get the fuel line connector off at all. Luckily you can drop the case and undo it under the car without having to take this off. Be careful not to pull on it or put any extra strain though.
4. Be prepared to saw through the bolt just like Adioz did. It is an absolute pain and you have to loosen the bolt just enough to get a hacksaw between the plastic mounting lug and the top of the case, but a bit of jiggling will give you the gap you need. You'll probably have to drill through what's left of the bolt into the mounting but a good-sized replacement bolt with two big washers will do the trick nicely. Frankly, I can't see how they'd do anything other than that at a garage anyway.
5. Regardless of what some people have said, you CAN reset the DPF through the trip computer. Do what Taffysblog says. It took me three minutes and is now reset to 80K.

Do NOT attempt this without a good jack and axle stands. Ramps would be even better, a pit or platform a gift from heaven. As most of my plastic undertrays had gone (other than the one over the DPF tank) the underside was absolutely filthy (duh) so wear protective goggles.
