There is a chain linking the two cams. Which would be on the back/passenger side RHD of the engine.

Exactly. The sound is going from this place. The car is waiting for service now. If will be possible, I will ask to the serviceman take photos.

Are there more Peugeot dealers/garages than BMW near 'wherever it is you live in eastern Europe?' If so, try one of them. They'll be 100% familiar with the Pug (that's what we in the UK nickname Peugeots) engine.

There's not a lot of difference between a diesel and a petrol. Same bits go round and round but fuel is ignited by compression (very high, i.e. 20/1 rather than 10/1), not spark.

Do you have Google 'wherever it is you live in eastern Europe?' It can be very informative.
And Wiki?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSA_HDi_engine
How Stuff Works is quite handy. It starts "In theory, diesel engines and gasoline engines are quite similar". Indeed.
Diesel Engines vs. Gasoline Engines - How Diesel Engines Work | HowStuffWorks
This lot took me about 3 minutes to find. Maybe your internet speeds are from the dark ages. I doubt that.
What is the difference between gasoline and diesel engines? |NCH
I'm not going to abuse you as some of the posters have, but matey, get a grip.
May we ask 'wherever it is you live in eastern Europe' is? Just interested.

I think it's best to let Anton fix his BMW MAKE Mini on his own Nigel. Even if he had half a brain he would have posted his question in his native language then had it translated underneath, well that's what I would have done in his case but then again, he could genuinely be as thick as mince which isn't uncommon with today's generation of misfits......

Hello!
I was offline couple of days. My location is small town Balvi near the border with Russia, Latvia (Porzingis- basketball star, Knicks, is latvian, may be You interested in sports ). The nearest Mini authorised service is in Riga, the capital, 230 km far away. Right now the car is waiting for service at nearest neighbour town. The service is familiar in diesels, not in Pug, but anyway. They cannot find time past week, but promise this week make diagnosis and repairs. The car is drivable and starts normally, but I afraid to use it.

Thank You for responses.

We had little discussion earlier about BMW make MINIs exists or no.

The conclusion- just for interest.

There was a faulty injector caused (may be) bad fuel or just mechanical wearing.

The repairs were made by Citroen dealers (PSA engine)

TNX to all.
