Regen

Hi guys
Just wondered what you do when your car decides it needs to regen the DPF. My car started to regen just as I pulled up on my drive, I took it for a 4th gear run on the dual carriageway for about 10 miles.
Would you guys have just parked up and carry on with normal use or go for a blast?

Cheers Stu

what i do as i have a citroen 2.2hdi now and has the big brother of your engine in it with additive tank and dpf, when car gets to that point it starts to regen i help it along the way, use that autocom you have and force a regen on it at least then you know its doing it and suits when you want to do it if that makes sense, also find the software does a better job than a passive regen while driving it,
in autocom first screen clear fault codes,
after click left pane crossed tools button,
screen with drop down box at top with a ok button, select drop down list select particulate filter regeneration then ok button follow on screen instructions to the letter, some cars a regen is done while stationary and increases the revs to around 4k for 40 minutes while its gets filter very hot, on others the regen is done on a drive ie with diagnostics connected and drive for 40 minutes at revs above 3k or more. the software tells the ecu to retard ignition and rich up the fuelling to crate high temps in the exhaust.

Hi Mike
The only reason I knew was the fan came on, so went for a drive at 3k revs, just inconvenient timing, it does it every now and again and wondered if just stopping was a bad idea.
It'll get about 7hrs on the M5/4 Tuesday so hopefully it should get hot enough for long enough then.
Fingers crossed the new vacuum solenoid was the other problem it had, don't fancy getting recovered 200 miles.

good run on motorway in 4th gear at 70mph should force it to do its regen on the run i know mine would do it every time i went to wales and back as i would use the trip to get it to regen correctly, car i have now has a van engine in it so filter the is very big 3 times the size as the 1.6hdi
