Home made black-line (plus other visual enhancements)

I was looking into buying the black-line original mini accessories but the price they ask for few ABS plastic pieces was a turn-off for me.

Still, I could not drop the idea of "black-line" so I tried it on my own with some rubber-comp paint (a plasti-dip like paint). The results are ... well, pleasing, at least for me .

Now I'm planning to black out everything chrome related (except the belt-line). I already ordered some black ABS covers for the door handles (I hope they will fit) and I'm prepared to rubber-coat the side charging port and the decoration from the other side as well. I also took off completely all the chrome decorations from the back of the car (I only left the mini logo).

So, if anyone is pursuing the same visual goal, is doable with almost no money .... just a a little time.

You will have to work on the wheel arch plastic covers too to make them match the rest of the blacking out that you have done............ yours seem to have faded a lot more than mine - what car cleaning products do you use that might be a bit caustic for the wheel arch plastic “eye brows”

They are not faded ... is the light reflection playing with the color. The car is brand new (I received it on February 21st 2019). I only washed it like 3 times so far (hand-wash) .

I used to have a red phev (I also uploaded some pictures with it last year), ordered in February '18, received it in July ... and at the first snow from December, faith hit me ... to be more precise, I hit the car in front of me (very slippery highway on the fresh snow and I hit the XC60 in front of me with about 20 Km/h). The damage was not extensive (no airbags, the car was still functional and I drove it home) but apparently it was VERY expensive because the insurance company gave me a voucher to go and order a new PHEV ... so, this is how I got the new car (BRG this time).

A tribute to the previous one:

little tip for the black plastics on wheel arches, use a paint stripper heat gun on them just keep adding heat while moving it around, its just at the point of melting the top of surface the plastic will go back to new looking as plastic just starts to biol the surface as such..
word of warning if dont keep moving the heat gun around it will distort it,, i've done hundreds like this and it always works,, ie white sun baked plastics turn show room black again,

Door handles covers are here ... only the chrome plate around the charging port remains to be "touched"

Sorry to read of the “death” of your red PHEV.
I like the black door pulls. Can I ask where you purchased them?
Interesting that you could order metallic dark green because it isn’t available any longer on the PHEV configurator in the UK

The door handles covers are ordered form eBay UK - actually . Here is the link:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-STOCK-...5/163332837619

And here is the link to some black trim for the beltline (I'm still waiting for it, I'm not even sure I'll be using it).

As for the BRG it is not available here either but this one I chose from stock. It has the same level of equipment as the red one, except DAB radio (but it has alarm factory mounted instead) and has as extra- JCW aerodynamic kit. This one is produced in August 2018 and it was available within a week from the order date.

Interesting fact: the green one has USB-C everywhere in the cabin (2x in the back, one under the arm rest).
The box under the driver seat is gone as well as the small net near the feet of the passenger. The microphones in the sealing are now square and have a "normal" grill on them while the previous car had them round with the holes in the shape of a microphone sign. The software on-board is different as well. The sport mode is no longer keeping the battery at 80% (as the red one did) but at 50%.

This is what I see as differences so far.

I like the BRG and it looks good without the contrast roof too (iím Not a fan of a black roof on my carís even though I have it on mine - it does make the interior much warmer on a sunny day)

I'm coming back with the next incremental update ...

I managed today to black-out the huge chrome plates on the front fenders (the one on the charging port and the decorative one on the other side). I'm so pleased with the result I cannot stop looking at the car ...
