Countryman 2.0 Cooper S Classic MPG

I'm currently driving a skoda karoq 1.6 diesel and it's a bit lifeless. I'm interested in 2.0 petrol cooper S but a bit scared by the MPG.

What are people getting in real life conditions? The dealer assures me 45mpg is possible but I can't help but be suspicious of that!

My daily commute is about 40 miles round trip - mostly country roads.

On a 2018 countryman cooper s 2.0l, around town i get mid 30's and on a longer run of 20 to 25 miles of mixed motorway and country roads mid 40's. I do not have the lightest right foot so this is not economy driving but keeping up with traffic. I would think a long term average in the low 40's mpg would be very achievable.

That doesn't seem too bad. I've driven diesels for 20 years so it's a hard mind set to get out of. My wife has a 1.0 TSI fabia and I love driving it compared to the karoq!

I’ve had diesels for 20 plus years as I just love the grunt and the way they pull, however I have just got a petrol Cooper S auto. Watching the petrol gauge move more quickly is scary and I’m getting nowhere the MPG I was on my previous Cooper SD but on my commute in eco mode I get 50 mpg and in sport that only drops to 46 on a 52 mile round trip.
