Driving the cooper, non turbo and stopped outside house and notice water leaking under the drivers side of the engine towards the back.
Without checking am I looking at a new water pump. Cant think of any hoses in that area unless it's the water pump yo thermostat housing plastic hose
Do the water pumps on these fail dumping the coolant out
yes they do fail 50-120k depending on how driven and luck i guess and if ever run with no antifreeze in system or ever used a sealant for head gasket problems in the past can also weaken them,, engine mount off and wheel arch plastics away not a bad job really, there also a link turbo to thermostat housing
On further investigation it seems the o ring on the plastic pipe to back of water pump has let go.
Could be the pipe has cracked but will find out once stripped
Ok water leak diagnosed and repaired
The fault was the plastic pipe that runs from the thermostat housing to the water pump
Pipe had cracked and allowed the o ring to slide out of place
New pipe with o ring fitted and no more leaks
getting the wire clip on thermostat housing end is special with inlet manifold in place isn't it, joys of cheap thin plastic pipe
