INPA Requested control unit: 'MED17_2' not found

Hi everyone,

I am sorry for posting this here but I have ran out of options and I was hoping that maybe someone might be able to help me. I have a european MCS 2008 and I am having an issue with INPA reading the N14 ECU. When I choose the engine I receive the message attached.

Requested control unit: 'MED17_2' not found
Control unit found: 'MED17_2N'.
Program will be stopped.

I have updated my datens to 55.4 using BMW coding tool.

The software works flawlessly on my E92 and I am successful in coding both cars.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have MED17_2N.PRG in your C:\EDIABAS\Ecu folder?

Dear David,

Yes I have the MED17_2N.PRG. All my datens are up to date as well. On another forum, I was told to open the R56.ENG and R56.GER File
and add the entry for the MED17_2N.

Now I am getting this error:
INPALOAD
"Error Compiling Script File"

I am assuming you opened ...INPA\CFGDAT\R56.ENG and under the [ROOT_MOTOR] list, added the line ENTRY= MED17_2N,MED17 for N14 ?

EDIT: I have done some research regarding this issue and it appears that the MED_172N.PRG file has been compiled for use with EDIABAS v7.*.*. Try running your INPA installation using EDIABAS v7

I just had a look in my c:/INPA/SGDAT folder and it appears there is no MED17_2N.ipo file so INPA obviously can't find the particular variant in question. As you probably know, .ipo files are initially written as script files (.ips format - which INPA can also run), then compiled into .ipo format. I played around with attempting to write an .ipo file (using c89/c99) some time ago and it was complex and definitely not fun. I toyed with the idea of just copying MED17_2.ipo then renaming it as MED17_2N.ipo and saving it to c:/INPA/SGDAT to see if it would run, but did not want to run the risk of garbled output damaging my car. There is an .ipo decoding program floating around, but it only displays a summary of what the .ipo file contains - if you open one with WinMerge and compare it with the decoded file you will see what I mean.
Have a look in your EDIABAS Doku file for an explanation of the process for creating an .ipo file and you will see why I just use Carly for BMW to diagnose my Mini.
