Coolant expansion tank return line help!

Hey, I'm a new member on here but a lifetime fan of minis, but by no means a pro. I bought a 2004 JCW yesterday and drove it 150 miles home and the engine started to overheat. I popped the hood and saw that the return line to the expansion tank was unattached and that the nipple of its connection spot was broken off. I have no idea where this plugs in to or what part I will have to buy to replace the broken nipple. Any help will be appreciated!!!

Can you post a photo?

But if it is a return hose to the expansion tank it should fit on to the tank close to the power steering header tank.

If the pipe is disconnected then presumably the expansion tank is not pressurised when the system is hot and in fact the whole cooling system will not be pressurised so the engine will boil over at way too low temperature and overheat very quickly.

Driving it far in this state is likely to lead to a blown cylinderhead gasket!

Look at this diagram on realoem.com
RealOEM.com * BMW R53 Cooper S EXPANSION TANK/TUBING

You can get the part numbers off of it and order at a MINI dealer,
PelicanParts.com, ECStuning, etc.

If the nipple's broken off, you'll need a new expansion tank 17137529273

Can even get an aftermarket expansion tank instead if desired.

Here are some options:
Search SiteSearch 17137529273 - ECS Tuning

Thanks!

Thank you ihughes and cristo both, the link to ECStuning was exactly what I needed! The part called the T-connector. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks again!
