Hi Pete
Yes they are a problem. Also the oil level needs to be at the high level all the time as the oil capacity is considered to be too little on the mini.
One solution to the dipstick problem I use:
Measure the difference between yellow plastic bit that hits the tube and the lower flat part. Then measure same amount down from the top mark ( a tiny hole in the top bulb) and make a mark in the plastic.
Withdraw the dipstick , wipe clean, and leave for 10 mins to allow the oil to drop out of the tube.
Insert the DS up to the lower flat part and withdraw , you should now see the level clearly, which will of course be lower than the top mark.
i removed the dipstick. Degreased it and gave the plastic level area a dust of white primer. Simple to read accurately.
Mike's tip btw not mine but works.
i do that to them all the time takes a few minutes and ensures the level stays right, the best primer is etch primer as it etches in to the metal better, its funny how the simple ways are always good
