could be a lot of things need a good diagnostics scanner and live data see what you have, common is timing chain or r56 engines this will also cause 02 sensor upstream to over heat melt etc also cause it to trim fuel back if out of time etc all in a loop, but all this said need to start with a good diagnostics tool autocom cdp plus is hard to beat for the money on ebay £35ish

Hi, I had the same problem with my R53 and it drove me mad for months. Everytime I'd stop my car would judder and on occasions stall. Spent so much money replacing parts and nobody knew what was wrong. To cut a very long story short, I had my mot and asked for them to check my 02 sensor. It showed nothing when plugged in but started juddering right there. I asked for them to u plug it and go for a drive. A few days later still unplugged that was the bloody problem that caused me months of misery. It hasn't done it since:) definitely check your 02 sensor x

i see so many times on these engines ie same engine used in Peugeot Citroen stuff upstream 02 sensors fail as a bi-product of retarded timing, also seen a lot of times garage replaces the sensor off car goes for a year or two to have another sensor fail or they crack inlet or exhaust valve more so on turbo cars. i always treat a 02 sensor as a warning of the above and a must do is check chain is not stretched as most are i have found,, lipstick on a pig springs to mind, ie keep fixing the outcome and not the cause,,
