2191 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Mad Max
Hi, just taken ownership of a 1.6 cooper reg54 and the air pipe with I think is the air box is very lose and rattles, the screw that holds it into the mout at the corner of the engine has a rubber mount on the screw but they is about 5mm play. Should this rattle this much? If not where can I get a replacement screw??

That part is generally referred to as the resonator box ... whether it's there to make a noise or to resonate to mask one I'm not clear about TBH ... the bit holding the air filter is the long shallow box at the back of the engine BTW.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the fastener, merely that the rubber grommet it passes through has been pulled out of the bracket on the resonator & needs re-seating.

:)

There are three rubber grommets under the air box that hold the air box securely to the manifold. Remove the air box and ensure that the grommets are in good condition if not replace them. Then replace the air box pushing down firmly to make sure it seats securely. If it seats correctly that should be enough to keep the air box from moving around. Then replaced the bolt for good measure.

Many companies sell the Google rubber air box grommets with you Mini's model. Look for genuine mini part.
