2002 Cooper, no power to boot.

This is a strange one.
The rear wiper motor was grinding so I decided to try to remove it. I removed the trim from the inside of the boot and then proceeded to snap off the rusty nut and thread from the wiper. Not thinking there would be a problem I allowed the boot to shut.
Now there is no power to the rear central locking or the wiper motor, they were both working fine before I started.
I am thinking that one of the screws from the rear panel might complete the circuit ? Does that make sense ?
I do not have a boot release catch and now cannot open the boot to put the panel back on and I can't see the screw holes from the inside.
How can I open the boot now ?

Any advise will be gratefully received, thank-you.
