2003 Cooper S Trunk lock

The battery in my Mini is dead so nothing is working! I need to get to the battery in the trunk, which is locked. I have located and engaged the trunk release but it won't fully unlock so still can't open the trunk. I have tried at least a dozen times. Anyone have another solution up their sleeve? I

Open the hood & connect a battery/jumper pack to the +battery terminal provided there & ground. It's a square box close to the power steering reservoir.
You should be able to start the car, unlock the doors etc etc with the key fob.
