2003 R53 Heated Seats - Too hot!

Not sure if anyone has experience of the same problem but the heated seats in my Cooper S JCW get far too hot after about 5 minutes, even on the low temperature setting. I've read on other forums that this could be to do with worn foam in the seats leading to the elements being too close to the surface, which make sense I guess. Is there any sort of workaround that doesn't involve re-upholstering???

My old r50 did this, only on the
driver’s side. I suspect it was an
open connection from the temperature
sensor in the circuit, but never tried
to fix it, just toggled it on and off every
so often as needed.
