2004 R53 Bad Auto Dimming Mirror

I think the dimming medium in my mirror on my 2004 R53 (mfr prior to 07/2004) has gone bad. The upper portion of the mirror has turned wavy looking and it’s across the entire mirror. Could I remove the Auto Dimming mirror, unplug it and install a manual dim mirror without impacting the rain sensor for the auto wipers. When I look up the part numbers for the Auto Dimming Mirror, it says it includes the rain sensor. Part# 51161508456, The manual dim mirror is part#51161508455, but I’m not sure if the rain sensors will still work if I use the manual mirror. Also if I replace my Auto Dimming Mirror with a new one, does it require any programming?
