I got a 2008 Mini Cooper Works with The N14 with Power issues very very laggy on acceleration and shows multiple codes but not sure where to start with it. I am a auto Tech but mini's is not my normal vehicle choice to work on the codes showing on my scanner they are not the normal p codes so I am just trying to get headed the right direction there are codes showing for the VANOS but not sure of what could be the cause with it showing so many codes On a vehicle I really wanted nothing to do with but being a friend I took it in anyway. I have cleared codes and the mass air flow codes pop up immediately after clearing with car not running just switch on and after car started all the other codes pop right back up again would a MAFS really cause all of these codes. the one that really got my attention as a suspect was The VANOS code.

what sort of mileage would be my first question on those engine they are very much prone to timing chain i go with 60.000 miles as target for change them,
looking at the codes would think engine wiring harness faults are present maybe. or a switched earth fault from main mev17.4 ecu or before it maybe below in pinout for ecu shows earths and other connections to help you

WOW Thanks Mike these will come in real handy as for the timing chain not sure yet if its been done yet I dought it and it's got 114k miles on the car I will have to check with owner and see I know some issues will cause a daisy chain effect of codes but would the timing set throw these codes. I will get into it more tomorrow and let you know what I find out with it Thank You for the wiring pinouts that will be very helpful. not sure if it could change the status out come and not sure if this was the issue before hand was but owner just had someone not us to put a new turbo on car. I got to get with owner on that too and see if this was the reason for the turbo install Thanks again Mike we shall see what comes of it tomorrow

i promise you at 114.000 miles it will be on its second chain kit for sure and well in realms of needing the next one, and also not just cheap kit either will need vanos sprocket and oil pump chain and sprocket as well doing as they wont do 160k for sure, we specialise in the psa prince engine stuff and do a lot of them and know what works and what dont and what fails and pretty much when and how, if its 114 km then its well due on its first chain kit for sure. you need to know the mechanical are healthy on them before fault finding compression test oil pressure when hot test etc, good clean oil and new filter a must, 8k oil changes good thing and seafoam flush in oil very good to keep clean, the destroy the cat and 02 sensor upstream if driven to long with a retarded timing chain etc, also can hurt valve stem seals and even crack valves as well from to much heat due to timing and heat build up, as i keep banging on to people treat chain as a 60.000 miles must do job and they start healthy, failure to do that they get people saying death rattle and worst car they ever owned,, reality is not the car just past owners and new buyers dont learn enough about common faults that are easy to repair in first place, prince engine is a epic thing really won so many awards 300bhp now in Peugeot 308gti limited edition thing on n18 engines can be mapped higher as well, and low emissions
