Hello,

Just bought a new mini 2011 Plate - the keys do not unlock the doors electronically and I have to use the key manually.

The key however does start the car.

The batteries have been replaced and still no luck

Anyone have any idea of what it could be?

The key is the round one which slots in to the start/stop function

Thanks in advance

its worth plugging keys in to dash for a few hours just fr reference for others as they are rechargeable, new keys from bmw are around £130, there are people on ebay that can repair faulty keys ie replace battery and buttons etc,,
as both your keys are doing same thing chances are it could be either the plug in slot reader and charger or more likely as someone else says the mirror receiver/transmitter ie every time you lock or unlock the car this sends a rolling code to and from the key and car as such so never have same frequency to open and close car ie anti theft,, this is all controlled by the body control module and is where the keys are programmed to,, some times is possible after a long time of using car with faulty batteries and fobs to corrupt the system at this point its needs specialist help to reset the key fobs to the car codes as such,, ie diagnostics run to encode both car to keys ie master reset, gen 1 mini were easy could do a set sequence and reset or rearm the keys on gen 2 bmw changed it so its main stealer visit if this is the case,, you can reset them with autocom if have the factory code pin number,, but dealers dont like to share these,, some good auto electricians can read theses codes off the old key and car and re-clone them to work ,, could if in uk try this guy he's called dale really good bloke, PHONE NUMBER 07807 222262

Best way of charging your keys is by using them . However if you want to charge them outside of the car, use an induction charger. ( I use and charging base of an old electric toothbrush) Proper induction chargers are available on EBay, they are pretty cheap as well.
