Does anyone here know if you can replace the stock stereo/speedometer in a 2011 Mini Cooper base model, with the touchscreen/navigation unit from a 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman?
It seems like you should be able to, but there's a lot of conflicting information out there.
The goal is to install a backup camera and I would rather have it appear on the navigation display screen, that replace the rear view mirror and do it that way.

You can do anything if you know how, but it won’t be plug any play for sure.

I got a touch screen replacement for a 2009 Mini that came with the rear view camera from Ebay. Here is the info for the radio.

Aftermarket, sure.
Example aftermarket.

Retrofitting the oem screen is hard. A guy on NAM tried it. He got most working, but I'm not sure he ever got it to work fully.

This is a direct fit plug and play. The only thing different is that there is no CD player but it has a mp3 hookup.

Where’s the speedo?

plus these Chinese android head units offer a lot, but never quite deliver quality in any of it.

My speedo is on the tach but I can also put it on the center console. There is an app called Torque which I use for monitoring the car's system. All you have to buy extra is adapter for the OBD2 port. I also had my system for a little over two years and never had a problem. I added pictures that I took this morning to show you the different screens.

'You have the one with the speedometer around the display. Does it work? I heard from someone else they were not able to get it working.

The speedometer around the display is in KPH not MPH. I use the speedometer on the tach or the App Torque.
After moving to another city, my husband bought me a car. This will make it easier to get to work so I don't have to ask my husband to give me a ride. Only now I don't know the streets in this city. I asked my husband to buy some kind of GPS navigator so that I would not get lost on the way to work. Cheap Car GPS was not easy to find among a whole bunch of other navigators. But when my husband finally installed GPS in the car, I was happy. Now the road to the nearest shopping center didn't take me almost 3 hours. I've been driving around town using a navigator for about six months now. During this time, I have learned most of the routes I need. I think in time I will be able to drive around the city without a GPS navigator.
Hey Metloaff,
The unit I am talking about here has the GPS built in which is very helpful since the Mini is too small to put a GPS in a good spot without blocking either vision or controls to something. This picture was taken in the garage and was only on long enough for me to get the picture which is why it's looking for a GPS signal.

The speedometer around the display is in KPH not MPH. There is a speedometer on the Tach, right in from of the steering wheel or I use Torque to display the speedometer along with other functions like temp, tach, fuel and so on.

I tried to find more info about this. I thought it would be plug and play for cars of the same year - similar build (R56's)

Sorry for the delay HarryK, I had to search through emails to find the information for you. I paid $410.16 on 2 Dec 19. There are a few on Ebay anywhere from about $260 to $900+.

Find myself in the unenviable position of wanting to do the same thing. Several speedo rims with the Mph for sale here and from the UK. You made any progress? What are the options for the center part. Assuming it would be GPS as well as radio. 2011 was supposed to have Sirius capability built in, but no satellite option on my current radio. I am trying to make a functional sound system from a poorly working HK system. Really like the mph option On a dial instead of digital readout.
The unit I have can be connected to the internet and you can download any app just like a phone. The Torque App has different layouts for the readouts which is analog or digital. The GPS was preinstalled on the unit and it is pretty accurate, plus the radio plays fine while the GPS is going. I never tried Sirius on my unit because I just use the MP3 player.
