Hi all.. well, our 2012 Countryman Cooper is doing some (I think) fuel pressure related behaviour. First start of the day it either doesn't start first go as it always has, or it starts, stumbles and runs rough and stops, then starts next time as if everything's good.. however, it throws up low pressure codes and therefore misfire as well and the SERVICE warning comes up on startup, now the engine check light, most of the time with the half orange across it, cleaned MAF and ECU plugs and all fuses and relays, had codes cleared, ran perfectly for a little over 100k, then, Saturday my wife tried to start it and it would only stumble and run on 1 or 2 cylinders on start plus blowing black smoke??.. what the?.. If I start it with accelerator pedal flat to the floor it starts pefectly, makes sense as the ECU is getting a "Max fuel demand" signal..it has gone into limp mode 3 times now. so.. high pressure fuel pump or the high pressure sensor in/on the fuel rail is dodgy.. where to next??.. everyone wants to analyze it.. for $$$ of course.. BMW/Mini have quoted $250 Aussie dollars to plug in to see IF they can pinpoint is, then if its the pump, a measly $3300 to replace it... soooo.. already paid a bucket load to have the fuel system cleaned out with no change at all... always run on 98 octane, serviced, 91000k's

There are 3rd party places that rebuild them, but not sure about Australia.
You can take a mini engine to the fringe that is for sure(not you anybody). It just depends on what way you want to wear it. Half plastic engine that is modular. Pretty easy to service. Time consuming but easy half the tuck away into small area's while the engine is being built back up. Tiny parts. I would buy a Foxwell NT530 for mini cooper's scan tool. It shows the code and what it means. Then goes to a second screen when the code and meaning is clicked; where it tells you which parts are in question.

is hella late, but did you check the boards behind the JBE behind the kick panel on passenger side? Sometimes one of the solders goes bad, usually to the the fuel pump relay. When car is cold, it runs fine, but when the box heats up, it loses continuity and CEL pops up… sputter, then die. Next day, when cold again, it seems fine. Rinse and repeat. Gotta fix the board, or replace JBE. If you replace JBE, dealer will have to reprogram. Pain in the ass.
