2015 Mini Cooper Suspension Springs

My wife has a 2015 Mini Cooper 14000 miles and the front driver side suspension spring snapped!!There has been no indication of a problem apart from a dry grating sound minutes before.Is this bad luck,or acceptable for a car of this age?
