Hi, 2009 R55 clubman; 114,000 miles 6 speed manual (new to me).

While shifting into second gear you have to pull the shifter all the way back and hold it and then no issue, up or down. Double clutch doesn’t change the issue if you don’t hold it back won’t go in and it grinds.

After it engages you can let go it’s fine in 2nd.

While in 2nd you can coast and then accelerate hard does like it should it stays in gear.

My thoughts are could it be an external linkage adjustment?

Anyone else experience anything like this? How’d you fix it..

I don’t know the history on the car, other than a few little issues I love it.

This won't get better with time. The syncros go in the transmission and you'll be swapping it soon. It's not uncommon on the Getrag unit. Think I've done two so far in 2019.
Don't worry, it's ~$350-500 for the trans (used) and a day in the garage for a basic handyman.
