A long story short, my lovely daughter decides she needs to go to the supermarket in her mini and without checking her oil level.
6 miles in oil light comes on then off and them the car is bogging and wanting to stall, smelling hot and steaming white smoke from the bonnet.
I guessing it cooked it warping the head and causing other damage.
Following day after its recovery I put oil and water in, the water drained from the rear in record time.
But it turned over, so not seized.
Is the engine worth stripping and skimming the head or has she melted internals like bearings journals , I have the laser timing tools, compression and leak down testers.
Or do I buy a replacement prince 1.4 lump swapping what bits I need.

Catch cans on the mk1 were pointless, however with the mk2 its needed and the amount of oil I could've reclaimed on the previous prince engine was alot.
These engine whilst being award winning are arse about face.
The pipe from thermostat to pump and the long front lower hose.
The vanos system is neat and I want to rebuild this one here, Just making up.some tools to enable just that.
i know also the award wins are for emissions mainly and power to weight both are not good bed fellows, ie reduced weight means lighter thinner parts,, i do a lot of vag stuff as well and buy they also are off their heads on some of there engines tsi engine twin charge golf and polo go so well but timing chain do same as mini around same times,, or the dsg gearbox never have i seen so many different reasons they commonly fail on even crack the valve blocks 80k if lucky 4k bill to repair, or the oil pump with balance shafts that put load on the oil pump chains and snap and takes out the engine, or then they refined it with a pencil drive to oil pump that is made slightly smaller and wears barely makes 60k before taking out the engine, or the v6 diesels with swirl flaps made of plastic then link them to a eml light £600 repair, bmw own engines the n46 petrol ho boy thats just a bad day all day, or the n47 diesels another so bad design,, they design these engines then blame the emissions laws the government comes up with as a default fall back position of ever get sued for it i guess, makes you think when cars go electric they have no ware to hide with design stuff to last 3-4 years maybe,
Vague engines used to be rock solid.
Unfortunately everything is like that.
Take bodywork, what used to be 1.4mm is now .9mm.
Every bit of skimping is happening.
Then you get the sorts of people that modify it without knowing how it will affect the balance of the engine.

its all down to emissions and forced impossible figures set by the EU and all countries within it,, then add the oil companies dont want to loose all their business so other fuels dont get designed to fast plus would not surprise me if there were some new tech that was bought and copyright'd by such companies as to prevent being used before oil runs out, know back in the 70s 80s there were plenty of newspapers banging on about it, so emissions the heavy'r the mass to move the more energy it takes to move it and stop it as such so thin metals and plastics suit this for the targets, back in the 80s i stick ford escort n to a tree sideways passengers side it bent the car that bad i could easy reach the passenger side door handle from drivers seat after ho that accident really hurt,,, 've seen a few 2000-present day have same sort of accidents and drivers walked away and said the only damage was to the car so thin metal can help when its used as it is these days with crush zones that take away the impacts,, i got hit up the back few years a go and was in a fairly new car with good n-cap rating was not so bad as no so bad can be i guess lol. but all this comes at a price and a price us owners end up paying is broken cars
My evening just got better found out the clutch slave cylinder had a split gaitor and leaking fluid.
A mop up and tomorrow spray with brake cleaner hopefully I don't have to split the gearbox.
The plate should've deflected it away and down.

slaves is on front of gear box easy replace.. would do master as same time as chance are what took out the slave could be debris from master

Looking at the pictures when I ripped out the box, it was oily and maybe from the clutch hydraulics.

All bled up using a clone of the vs820 on amazon and wow what a difference.
Haha this thing will kill me.
Changed out the rear arb bushes and the rear sub frame is shot, more rust than my 50yr old VW.
So that will also need replacing.
I take it Jack up the rear and loosen all the bolts and bolt the new in place.

yep sure do i get it from all angles myself and those can you just have a look questions that turn in to big free job lol
