AC not working

Hello. I bought a 2014 Mini Cooper last week and have noticed that when I press the AC button - nothing happens, the light doesn’t come on or anything. However when I press “Max AC” button it works perfectly. Not sure if I’m being stupid but can anyone please explain or help as to why? Probably something easily fixable and has something to do with the way I have my settings or something? Thanks in advance
