Adjusting PlayMini Exhaust - UPDATE PLUS PICS!!

2320 Views 27 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  jamski
I need to get my new, shiny, amazing sounding (it's great btw!!) exhaust adjusted, as it's moved and no longer in the middle of the cut-out in the valance.

Any tips on this. When It was first fitted it was perfect but soon moved after I had done a few miles!!

Thanks,

James. :D

Cool!! :D Did you go for the silenced or unsilenced pipe? I got it fitted by a mechanic i know. He charged £50. Apparently the hardest bit was to remove the old one as it has welded itself to the cat! He had to cut off the old bolts.

Where are you getting it fitted?
needed to get mine adjusted for ages now. After some miles go through it and some heat it expands and moves (mines moved left) and looks a bit silly in the aero bumper exhaust cutout

Mines gone right, interesting!! :p
Why are they shifting? As anyone actually found out as that seems odd. I've tried milltek, borla, powerflow, jcw and stock and none have shifted so there must be something wrong somewhere if more people are finding them moving about.

Dunno, they guy who fitted it didn't seem surprised. Looking at the mounts at the back they're rubber, to avoid vibration I guess, and there's quite a bit of sideways movement either side. There's definitely not an 'exact' positing for it to fit at the back end.

Its the un silenced one, i dont mind a bit of noise! but i did follow your other thread carefully to see what peoples opinions on it were first!

I got mine off eBay, its a few months old and i paid £145 for it, hoped it might go a bit cheaper but its still a decent saving for me. I'm getting it fitted at a local garage, they didnt tell me how much it will cost, just said 'it won't be much' i hope they wern't kidding!

I wonder if with mine being second hand it might not move out of position as much as your new one has

Sounds good!! :D I can't image it'll be more than £50, people on here have said around the £20-£30 mark before! I just hope we manager to get it secure and straight tomorrow!! :D

When you getting it done? Unsilenced all the way if you ask me!! :D I wouldn't want it any quieter!! :p
its going on on monday, i'll let you know what i think of it when its on, i can't wait!
I would think its not been attached with the hangers correctly?

The brackets on the box are held with a complete strap around the box so its 100% adjustable.

We have fitted any of these and ours have not moved?
All done now, and the issue was the amount of movement allowed through the red rubber hangers (attached under the car) that the metal bracket slides through. These in their very nature (and design) allow movement to stop vibration (i guess), but just seem to allow too much when used with the PlayMini bracket. The original BMW bracket had metal 'stops' that probably limit this movement. We used tie wraps (about 4 chunky ones) to limit the movement to the right, and so far, fingers crossed, touch wood and all that, it seems to be working. :p Reading other threads, other people have done similar things.

It's a great system, looks great, sounds great, and I guess sometimes, with after market bits, you have to expect a bit of tweaking. It makes you learn more about the car, so I still love the PlayMini. Pics below!! :D

Looks fab, nout wrong with the Play MINI system, had mine supplied and fitted by the fantastic Play MINI guys. 4 years and its still makes me have a big grin on my face, best system in the world! No movement here on the two MINIs we have with aero bumpers :)

When are you getting your car back??!! Excited??!! :p
Well mine was fine when I had it fitted with the standard One rear bumper on. But after I had the aero bumper fitted it didn't sit central, but to the left and slightly higher? I was looking at the brackets yesterday while I had the rear jacked up and saw that the garage who fitted it, like jamski, had 2 cable ties around the orange rubber mount. I removed these and it hasn't made any difference at all. Think I'll take it to a proper exhaust specialist

We used the tie wraps on the actual metal bit that goes through the rubber mount, to stop is sliding though too far to the right. I did a search on here looking for pics and most of them aren't totally central. I'm very picky and want everything perfect, and although it's still slightly to the right I'm happy! :p The main thing is there's no way (hopefully!!) it's going to vibrate on the valance like it was before!

I'll take a pic straight on and post back this evening. :D
Here's the straight on pics! The first one is when it's hot and it goes to the right!! The send one has been standing for about half an hour! :p

Cheers mate, would you be able to take a pic of the mount/hanger so I know what you mean?
I will do when I get a chance, may be tomorrow now. What do you think about the position of mine. Should I be ok with it do you think??!!
Yeah it looks just fine. I'm the same - a bit of a perfectionist so this drives me mad when I look at mine. Mine is to the left, practically touching the edge of the exhaust cutout, isn't as close anymore but if I left it like that it would have probably started to melt my bumper. Since the aero bumper I've had nothing but problems with the fitment. I love the sound and everything its just it was sticking out too far after fitment so had it pushed back a bit and again moved forward...It used to vibrate like **** against the heatshield but I think its melted it away now so doesn't vibrate :p bumper is intact though thank god!
