Aero Kit Please Review Advice Needed

971 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Wierd Bob
I was cleaning my MCSC today, which is fitted with the BMW Aero kit (not cheap). When I noticed what I thought was splashes of paint on the silver "mesh" rear sports bumper. Upon closer inspection the silver/aluminium look mesh is in fact a realistic sticker/ transfer , the paint being the colour underneath. After just 3 weeks this "sticker" has worn away, which is noticeable (see pics, worn at the top), Has anyone else had this problem, I will be phoning the dealer tomorrow.
I know I am probably sounding niaeve but I really thought this aluminium mesh was aluminium, especially at that price and not just a sticker look alike (it is pretty realistic, fooled me)
cheers

Not noticed it on mine but I do agree with you that, for the money, it is not an impressive product (although I still think it is the best looking kit available for the MINI) - esp round the rear of the car where there seems to be no structural support to the rear bumper/spoiler at all!!!
I was going to order an Aero Kit to be fitted to my car (mainly Cause I liked the side skirts) but didn;t want to order it until I saw it on the flesh so to speak. So my firendly dealer said they had a car with it fitted in the showroom if I wanted to look at it. Well I was underwhelmed to say the least. From a distance it looks great but as you point out the mesh is a sticker and the whole thing flexes like a cheap styrofoam box - the standard bumper is rock solid. I won't be getting the kit fitted now.
Anyway rant over - Bring it back to the dealer and get them to replace it. Then as soon as it goes again have them replace it again and again and again so on. Don't let them give you that normal wear and tear crap or that its not designed to last as long as standard because its a sports piece etc.
Scream, Scream and Scream some more.
Did you get the extended warranty?

Cheers guys for your replies.
I ordered the aero kit for the cosmetic look, as I really think it makes the car look totally different from the std bumpers. Yes I agree there is alot of flexability, but from a distance & driving it looks the business  . Very surprised on the stickers though, I will be phoning the dealers today. I took out the TLC package at that price who wouldn't, std 3 year warranty.
cheers

Surely body kits are all about how they look and if it looks great from a distance then why not get it anyway??
I'm just really fussy. And everytime I washed it I would see it flex and bug the hell out of me.
So I have decided to get the JCW Brake kit instead!!!
