Hi everyone, the alarm on my mini cooper 09 has started going off every time I unlock the car, with the fob or using the key. I can turn it off straight away by pressing lock and unlock again but ideally I'd like it not to happen every time.

I've tried locking it with the key, then unlocking with the fob and vice versa and that hasn't worked. Does anyone know what the issue could be? I only have one key/fob so haven't been able to try a spare set.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi!

Did you solve your issue at all?

My wife's car MINI Cooper 60 plate has started doing exactly the same. We have tried both keys and locking and unlocking the car with the physical key without setting the alarm.
have checked the battery and alternator and both seem fine.

Am wondering if it is a water ingress issue since she has to keep the windows open all the time (even when raining!) while teaching students to drive as per the government Covid guidelines.

I stumbled across this:

If you did resolve your issue, it would be great to hear since it is driving us crazy!

Cheers,

Mark.

Did you fix this, I have the same problem, or is there away to lock it without setting the alarm?

Hi Jonny, no joy I'm afraid. Had the faults cleared on the OBD but car is now worse, with all manner of alerts on the dash and not just the alarm going off. The car is currently unlocked on the drive. Locking with a key still triggers the alarm when unlocking with the key :(

Mechanic that cleared the codes suspects that it is ECU water damage. We had water under the carpets probably for a few months now in hindsight with realising.

I intend to buy a fault reader to clear the codes and take it to a specialist...

I also peeled back the carpets and they were sopping wet. Managed to get a litre of water out of the passenger footwell - worth a look under there. Mechanic dried out the ECU connectors and refitted too.

there is a youtube vid I used to start to peel back the carpets:

I took it mini and they said its the door lock on mine, it ain't.

It locks fine and unlocks fine bar the alarm going off.

So I paid £72 and they took the siren off and now all is fine.
