Hi
i have a alpine 60x4 watt head unit purchased from halfords, but every time i turn the volume up over 20 it cuts out and restarts meaning i can now have the full potential and sound. halfords say it is a safety feature, is there any way of taking it off?
cheers

If the display cuts out and it resets, I'd be more inclined to think that it's drawing too much current and you have a poor supply/resistive earth.

Get someone with know how to monitor the voltage at the yellow (b/u) line and red (acc) line as you increase the volume. All of the high power Alpines I would always run a direct line to the ignition (battery side - ie before switch) and fuse it as you need 20amp capability.

In my years of Alpine repair, I've never seen one -black out- on load as a safety feature. Usually it's indicitive of poor supply/earthing, specially if as you say the unit resets.
