Elec Folding Exterior Mirrors (Make me feel a bit James Bond :D)

I think I'm the only person who has added it to their spec. Does this mean its a bad choice??

Does anyone else have this option?

Think it may be better to get rid of this and go for ASC+T???

Dealer is going to phone me any day to confirm order :(

I got folding mirrors on my Cooper S best thing I did especially when putting the car in the garage and when parked on narrow roads. Stops all those scrapes on the mirrors, because it will happen! :D

I had these on a Citroen a couple of years ago and they were great! They were particularly useful when passing other cars in narrow lanes (it is Cornwall, you know). I would go to pass another car and then at the last moment I would press the button and the car would effectively narrow by about 7 or 8 inches. Was great, wish I still had it.

If you think that MINI charge a lot for it - go into a Volvo dealership and see how much they charge. That's the only reason I don't have it on my current company car. I would have definately had it on my Cooper if it had been available just 4 months ago!

My MCS is on order.

I did not see this option. Is it a European only option.

Dennis
I'm not too sure if this is an exclusive to Europe. Will have to look into it. Just thinking if the ability to miss cars by folding the mirrors is better than another switch on the dash to also help me stop hitting things, and i would have £60 change as well!!

They originally were an option (or was it standard?) in Japan, IIRC. They're now up for speccing on UK cars, although I can't comment on the rest of Europe. That's the second US resident to mention that they couldn't get them, so it would appear that they aren't available for the US market from the looks of it.

Door mirror life expectancy

i've never had folding mirrors and in the 5 odd years of driving i don't think i've ever scrapped my mirrors.

think they look cool though :p
Interesting one this. I used to work for a Bristol based company. My colleagues used to have their cars stolen or pick up dents when their cars were parked. However I, living in Cornwall, used to get my mirrors ground away as a result of narrow lanes with cornish banks (sort of like a hedge, but made of granite - very crunchy when you brush them with a mirror!)

Depends on where you live, I suppose.

Cheers Guys

Thanks all for the input. Seems like the people who have them like them so i will leave it on my spec. Will have to go without the traction control, although i dont think i will be driving it to its full potential to make the most of it!

Cheers guys and gals

As I said before I'm a fan of folding mirrors.

I ordered traction control on the MC really just to make sure there wasn't a blank on the row of switches! It does that job really well, but as far as having a practical use, I haven't found it yet :D

Therefore, good choice!

Also at this link you have two short videos that show how the mirrors work. For us in America that have not seen them move
I always wanted them for my tiny garage.
The install looks really difficult.

No, I've asked for these on my new Cooper, ariving in November sometime (yippee!). I haven't seem them in action, but I thought it was a good idea in car parks (didn't think about using them for passing in narrow lanes, a great idea).

I think the spec says that they're heated as well, should be good for winter. :)
