I just picked up a pair of Scion Tc seats for my 2003 Mini base. My vinyl driver's seat is torn. One reason I didn't get mini seats is because I found my back hurting after a 1 hour drive. I found these Scion seats in near perfect shape for $100 for the pair. I measured them and they are dimensionally very similar to the Mini seats. I realize I will probably have to modify the seat rails, which might involve some welding. That is not a problem.

The Scion seats do have airbags and I'm wondering if maybe I can just hook up the mini wiring to those plugs. I searched and saw that Scion Tc's need a 3.3 Ohm resistor to delete the airbag while I read that minis need 4 Ohms. I wonder if this might be close enough.

To be safe (or maybe unsafe, depending on your perspective) maybe I should just delete the seat airbags and put in the resistors.

I also realize there are issues with the seat belt tensioners. The Scion seats have them too but I'll probably switch my Mini ones over. I doubt the seatbelt ends are shaped the same way anyway.

Might be different over there where you are of course, but its not allowed here to just delete safety devices because they might not work or be working etc, it wont past the ministry test here, I would have thought the US was even more safety minded than us actually?
I suppose you can fool the test lights etc by fitting resistors and timers, etc to make it look like its got one and working, but arent you only really fooling yourself in the event of an accident where that item could have saved your life had it been working?
Just a thought?

I did some welding and modifying over the weekend and got the Scion driver's seat in. I like the way it looks and think it is much more comfortable than the mini seat. I said to myself "you're a bad ass", then went to close the door and it wouldn't close. Then I laughed when I realized the height adjuster knobs were in the way of the door pocket. I spent about another hour modifying, making the knobs thinner and now the door closes fine.

I hooked up the Mini wiring to the Scion airbag and no light! I also transferred the Mini seat belt anchor/tensioner so no seatbelt warning either. I can't post pictures because I haven't made enough posts yet. I din't swap over the seat heater.

For now I may not even swap out the passenger seat. The seats actually look kind of similar.
