Armrest cover problem

My Cooper S has an armrest which houses an optional mobile phone plug in unit. The cover slides back to allow access. I have managed to remove this cover and I cannot seem to replace it onto the armrest.

any ideas? suggestions? Tips? I’ve tried , believe me I’ve tried.
