Audio Suggestions?

I just bought a new 05 Mini, and I got the "Harmon/Kardon" system in the car. Its good, but I'm looking for more...I listen to stuff like Interpol/Muse/HIM, I'm not looking for super loud bass, I just want to be able to turn it up loud and not worry about blowing a speaker or something like that... I was thinking maybe new speakers and/or a sub with an amp? I'm pretty clueless about this sort of thing...so any suggestions would be helpful...thanks so much...

What's wrong with playing Interpol on a HK? I listen to them and am getting my MINI with HK fitted, but why do you say you need "more"? Surely sound staging and clarity is the most important thing when listening to music of the nature, and not necessarily the loudness? When i get my car in 2 months, i'll post back on how best to listen the Interpol with HK in a MINI! :D
When i suggested in another forum that the HK was not loud enough to my liking I was questioned by more than one poster. As if to convince me that I am literally insane, one who claimed partial deafness from being such a huge fan of loud music stated that the loudness of the HK was unbearable even to this loud music fan. I have seen several others with similar statements to mine about inadequate volume on the HK and I do not understand why a person's personal preference is questioned or criticized. And so my insanity continues and I would like increased volume as well. Like you, I am not Mr. car audio tech but I am and always have been big on clear, crisp, accurate audio and have fairly high end home equipment and have had the same in past cars. I have searched for tips on this in the forums and I see a lot about the HK system being proprietary which appears to mean compatibility with aftermarket amps and speakers is not an easy task. But I think it can be done.

Let me know if you find any good answers to your question.
