yep I was stopped riding about 10 years ago, was right to the end one of those that pushed to find the limits of a bike, started riding back in 1980s ar80 first bike then rd350lc then z600 and z900 gpz900 for a while, then I got a brand new fire blade urban tiger cbr900rr , stayed with fireblades up to 2003 then gsxr1000rr and gsxr750rr up to k7 then I gave up things were getting silly fast and I was always first to get anywhere really not a good sign really. and 1500 miles front tyre and barely 1000 miles rear tyre, nothing like a 100mph 4th gear wheelie lol

yeah like you I started back in 1979 on a 50cc, (did a bit of MotoX first) never stopped riding and still get out when i can but I suffer with rheumatoid arthritis i served my time for a Datsun dealer in the 80's but spent most of my time mechanicing in bike shops. ive had about 60 bikes in my life and loved them all, but my latest old girl is a 42 year old GSX1100ET with a few mods here and their 
nice , yes I got arthritis as well and also neck damage from a got spat off a cr500 when i was younger and its damage the nerve that controls the lower chest cavity and collapsed the lower part of my lung,, deffo know how you feel mate every day is about pain management, doctors told me the minute I give in to it and let it rule me, is the day I will go down hill with it all, I had my neck 3 discs pulled out and bone graft and cage in my next neck last year ,, funny they told me will be at least 6 months off work, I was back at after 6 weeks lol, had op at 10am on morning and was on way home by same time the next day lol, i'm coming to a cross roads I think working on cars might become a thing of the past coming to a point where i'm not pushing so hard etc, think its time for a fast toy me thinking I put wife on notice that might be happening if the right thing comes up,,

bloody hell Mike that sounds painful !!! and yeah them CR500's are evil... ive been of work for 3 and a half years now (had a few heart attacks as well ) but where I work now is sensitive so can't say over an open forum !!!! but they won't let me back in just yet. so spend most of my time tinkering with my bikes and that bloody mini of mine looks like i'll be taking early retirement ???????

I was 12 when got first scramble bike and lived near some woods and me and mates who had them would spend days up there racing around, had a few broken bones over the years,, its funny those early days taught me to ride and I could back a gsxr1000rr k6 in to a corner and slide it out the other side on throttle leave black lines in the road according to anyone following me ,,, I know the black rubber that was always hanging off the rear tyre to the edge was a sign to stop riding them, been so lucky never had a really big off couple of mid range off's , the one that hurt the most was a 60mph high side bloody thing spat upwards and I came down on my hands and knees had a bone out through on right wrist the other was pretty banged up,, 3 months later got insurance went and bought a new fireblade lol, i'm at that age where been looking for some easier fruit , might even start a mini specialist centre down here my own garage and train some lads or girls up while i go find work to fill their day up with,,

yeah riding off road does help for on road riding, I know what you mean about the kick starts, I had yz490 and an RM500.
starting your own mini garage might be a good thing as you will always have work !!!!!!!! lol
the place i bought mine from only sell and repair mini's. they have 3 outlets and are thinking about opening another 2.

I have 4 in the stable .passed my test in 82 had all sorts over the years RD50 ,Gt185,GSX400Fand the list goes on ..

time will tell I guess will see what happens over next 6 months waiting for a probate decision to put the cherry on top rather start something owing no bank anything,
i had few 2 strokes dam good fun zero engine braking and just silly power band , rgv 250 and rd500 back 1990s on thin tyres ,, that rd500 the throttle was like a on off switch linked to the front wheel as was always in the air lol, deffo taught you to wheelie , never like the tank slappers you would get if put front wheel down at wrong point

i'm in mid 50s still not got much fear with them lol, I was always a honda buyer had many fireblades and couple vfr750rr sports bikes , until they bought out the watered down fireblades designed for people who could not ride, that 16ince front wheel on early blades was a lesson to many lol, must admit when gsxr1000 came out I went to bike shop on a open day and had one out for a hour, then bike shop i bought all my bikes leant me one while my blade was in for warranty job and took nearly two weeks to sort,,, hmmm I think they wanted me to stay riding their gsxr1000 they leant me, knowing I would come back and buy a new one as could not go back to the blade after riding that,
and the ho bugger i put to much in moment on fuel tank mixed bikes and cloud of smoke lol

I had a Fireblade, a 16inch front one too, great bikes it ran out of puff at 150.
Had a couple of gsxr1000s an early k0 not long after the came out and they were proper fast back in the day but brakes were a bit weak, felt much stronger than the carb R1 that was around then( had one of them too).
If you want wheelies the 04 zx10r was the daddy, 160 bhp and a shorter wheelbase than a zx6.
Only new bike I ever had and it was a mental thing.

And the TL1000s was quite capable of single wheel antics ,had three of those, one of them, the frame cracked around the rotary rear damper which they were prone too ,the nice men at Spondon engineering machined of the cracked mounting ,fabricated a new one and sewed it back on .
