hi,

on thursday i managed to blow the engine on my GTT tuned mcs, not a great experience all round.
Roland is on holiday right now, so the car has gone to Mod n Mini in sittingbourne as they are the nearest independent mini specialist. initial findings are that the engine is f****ed which in itself is not so bad, but i think my Stage 4 head and shrick cams are toast too, bummer!

Real dilemma is what to do with the new engine, keep standard (i doubt it!) go GTT again ( proven performance) or do something else all together,

any ideas??

Sorry to hear that mate...

Any idea what was responsible for blowing it? What kind of BHP were you running? I guess what you should do from here will depend on what lessons might be able to be learned from what went wrong..! But definitely don't keep it stock :)

Do you not have a GTT warranty for something like this happening . Seems like a lot of money your writting off going somewhere else .

I dont believe any tuners offer a true warranty Andrew but Roland is very good when it comes to good will if it was anything related to his work. There is no info on the nature of the fault so I guess no one can comment. If the engine is that totalled then id guess an oil problem of some sort but still I really hope people wait for details before making judgements. :)

i'm not pointing fingers at anyone, the engine has not been fully stripped fro inspection yet, but before it popped there was a lot of vibration coming from the engine, which may have been from the crankshaft seal, some may speculate that this was from a lightened crankshaft pulley, but who knows, as i say i am putting it down to experience, and i have had 4000 miles trouble free since the work was done at GTT, so i would say they have fulfilled any warranty obligations, GTT are also fully aware of the situation, and the only reason the car is at Mod n Mini is that roland is on holiday, and they couldn't start looking at the car until after nov 10th, and obviously i need to get back on the road asap

How many miles had your car done before the tune, as saying the car had only done 4000 miles before going pop sounds really bad. Would be better to know how many miles in total before the tune to get it into context :)

As others have said, probably best to find out what caused it first and go from there. Roland will stand by his work as he has before.

The only other GTT cars that have gone pop that I know of are AntFR's car which from memory was oil pump failure and Lee's GTT350 car at Brands Hatch which was put down to the rocker gasket being pushed out, due to a faulty non return valve on the breather according to another forum.

Let us know what they find though as it could stop this happening on other cars. My head gasket went after Lohen tuned mine but that was down to the car overheating thanks to BMW techs not picking up that the thermostat was kanckered and the fan wasn't kicking in. None of the Lohen parts failed.

made a trip to siitingbourne today, and on arrival was greeted with a pile of mangled piston and conrod, an a sizeable hole in the block, detonation on good old no.2 piston.

car had done 57000 mile before tuning, so no spring chicken!

will know more on wednesday

how things have changed.
a few years ago if a mini tuners engine conversion had gone wrong you would have seen a public hanging. on mini 2 . EG lohen.

sorry to hear that
are your plugs able to tell you anything?
if your happy with gtt , ask roland to give you the stage 4++ at same price
you should aim to get the car better than it was b4, you will cry if you go back to std now
i think abeerdean al has a head for sale if you need one quick
good luck with repairs,

Yep joves right, just cos piston 2 is gone, we have not yet heard the actual reason for said failure...if its a blocked injector or something similar thats cause det then its nothing to do with GTT tuning really.

I'm sure that once roland is back and he and modnmini get together they will get you on the road as appropriate.

Good luck and I'm sorry to hear you had an issue

>>>> goes off to pamper and pray over his much moddified 73k engine
