Ever since I took delivery in April, I have been noticing all other MINIs and have been wondering what the thought on bonnet stripes is. I personally think that the stripes add a touch of MINI mistic and have been wondering why other people just do not get them. They just look so cool.

I like the stripes on my PW/B, but wouldn't order the factory stripes if I had it all to do over again.

The only problem is that there is an 1/8" white edge on the side of the black stripes (and vice versa on white stripes). I don't know why it is there, and maybe it looks okay on other colors, but the white clashes with my PW bonnet. I'd order something from Cooper Flags or somebody instead.

Actually, I'd probably go all PW so I could do a different color stripe(s) all the way over the roof.

Bonnet stripes are a personal preference thing. If you like them, go for it. I don't like them so I didn't I think it makes the car look lile a boy racer.

i didn't get them becuase i was worried that black stripes would clash visually with the intake for the supercharger. however, i have not ruled out getting a set from cooperflags in the ghosted silver/grey family.

Don't seem to have that problem with silver ones ;)

Didnt have them on my first S but got them on my second S, think they look spot on, I think they are individual to the Mini, how many Escort RS Turbos, Mk 2 - 3 Golf GTi's Vauxhall Novas , Citroen Saxos have you seen bonnet stripes on - in my case (driving all over the UK) zero so dont really think they fall into the boy racer catergory, too unique to the Mini for that.
UV lights - Turbo badges - Subaru Impreza rear wings - LED washerjets - thats a boy racer :D

i gotta say that some colors (like liquid yellow or chilli red) must have stripes to make it look good... but colors like mine (dark silver) won't look good with stripes and i never believe they will cuze they do not contrast as well (black stripes on a yellow looks great, same as black on white)

i believe the grounds is that mid tone colors like dark silver doesnt look too good with stripes.. but one man's opinion here!

its a personal thing, some people like them, some don't, they suit some colours of MINI, some they don't.

I am still undecided on having them on my car, so have magnetic stripes, so can have them on or off as I choose;)

some days I like to keep my car looking more classic (no stripes), some days I feel a bit more sporty (so stripes go on).

Oh and before someone says stripes are in keeping with the classic mini, then they should know that Rover added the stripes when they brought back the cooper name, in the 90's on the H plate limited edition cooper. They were not part of the original mini till this late stage;)

Its all about personal choice, but I do agree with Parc77, it don't make the car a boy racer (drivers do that) just different and cool  :D

I decided to go a full-on uni-color (indie blue) with black trim, my motoring advisor was skeptical but really liked it, as do I :)

We didn't get them on our Cooper or our S, but have since fitted factory stripes to both..!
I like the white pin stripe on me DS/B S - it looks a lot like the photo above, but I've put the black honeycomb aero grille on too.

When driving the TT, a friend was insistant that when you have a car you a re going to mod, however slightly, there should be a "plan". To start with, I thought this a bit anal, but then you saw his car... he spent ages picking how he wanted the car to look, and it did look very nice indeed, everthing co-ordinated and matching beautifully. I guess it's just a case of whether stripes are part of your "plan" or not. I'm going to be going with a very "clean" look with a few touches (like a few extra horses!), and probably won't do stripes. Each to their own...

Wouldnt want to disagree with you Rakey but the bonnet stripes were introduced on the circuit racing Minis of the 70's if memory serves me right. Not the road going cars but certainly there are pics of John Rhodes and the like in the classic Racing Coopers in cars with bonnet Stripes :D

Where to get stripes fitted

Does anyone know where you can get the bonnet stripes fitted? In London preferably.
My local BMW wants £180 to do it, thought that was a bit expensive!!!

You might want to check your insurance - amazing, but many insurers will count stripes/roof decals as a mod, and a significant number will even increase your premium. Even if your insurer doesn't charge extra, make sure you tell them so they can't use it as an excuse to avoid forking out on any claims you might have in the future.
