Our MINI has quite a sketchy service history. Am toying with doing it myself or possibly taking it to a specialist or even a main dealer to give it a full service and then go from there.

The specialist I spoke to today recommended Liqui Moly oil, they said it is all they use. I have never used this brand of oil.

Researching on the web, it seems to be ok but am I better off sticking with the usual brands.

Any advice or help will be appreciated.

i have no idea what oil my cars had with the previous owner or sadly what oil the garage who sold me it used ( if any during the supposed pre-purchase service ) or the garage its been to twice since has used - what i do know though is the onboard computer changed the 18k or 2 years interval to much, MUCH less miles on the last 2 oil changes - getting around 7.5-8k miles if i am lucky before its demanding a service - 8k miles last year before its demands started & it was set for about the same this year right up until last month when it for some reason stuck on service due in 1400 miles on every engine start for the last 6 weeks now lol - its been about 1600 miles since it started saying that now )

but this year i have decided to try the Patronas Syntium 5000 Oil & its going to be getting all new fluids ( coolant/brake fluid/gearbox oil etc ) as 2 of those 3 are factory fluids still & the cars coming up on 10 years old & 100k miles now, the brake fluid is at its 2 year interval since last done - that and the cars getting all new disks & pads as well as flexi-brake hoses too this year so may as well do a brake fluid flush while there.

next year i will see how the onboard computer goes & see if i stay with petronas or try another brand till i find one that can last a full 12 months without the car demanding being serviced early ( i only do 8-10k a year at the minute but when the oil struggles to last 10 months then it cant have been that good )
