Hey all,

I'm sure my dealer thinks I'm nuts, I've sent him so many details about exactly what spec I want on my new 05 Cooper! I'm down to 2 final decisions, and I'm in need of some feedback here...

I've ordered a BRG Cooper (chili) with black roof and Mini body kit, so essentially the car is de-chromed except for the boot handle and the chrome trim around the lights and windows.

So first question is - do I go with the chrome boot handle or switch to body colour a-la Cooper S? I'm leaning towards the body colour because it will be nicely understated, however not 100% sure so comments very welcome!!

Second question is - should I get black bonnet stripes or is that overkill? And, re. the stripes, is it possible to get plain black stripes with absolutley no silver pinstripes down either side?

So what do you reckon?

I think my middle name should be "indecision!"

Cleaned up my pure silver and black 03 mini yesterday for the Christmas and just realised how little I want to part with it. I'd like a back yard full of them!

Happy Christmas all and thanks in advance for any thoughts!!

Mmm, I know what you mean I found it so hard to deal with all the options you can get. I really really wanted a BRG Cooper until I saw the green in the flesh, I used to have a classic mini Cooper in metallic green with white roof and it was lovely, the green was so sparkly and fresh looking but once I saw the BMW BRG it was quite dark in comparison and not as sparkly so I went for the astro black and white in the end. I do think that the dechromed look gives the mini a bit more of a mean look making them stand out form the crowd but then I also prefer the Cooper over the "S", so really it's your own taste that dictates.
However my feelings are that if your happy with your current mini then I would just keep it as there is no real need to swap it just because that's what other people do.

Guys,

thanks for the responses - much appreciated  Rico, I actually had a long long look at your gallery as I was speccing out my car and it was one of the reasons I decided to follow through with the aero kit! So thanks for posting those images - it's also cool to hear back from you as a result! I agree with you about the BRG on the old mini, it was a nicer green, and in fact, I often think that BRG on the new Mini should not be metallic. Having said that, if clean it looks amazing. I;ve not been known for my car-polishing in the past, but I think I'll have to work on the BRG to keep it classy. There's a lot of people praising the astro black on here, I haven't seen one yet but I'm hoping I won't regret it.

BRM, one look at your photo and I know that I won't regret it!!!! I've had an indi blue One and a pure silver One, both with Chrome exterior and I had the roof on the silver One sprayed black (wannabe, I know) so this time I just wanted that little bit of "mean" thrown in. The stripes are a must then.

BTW - prices in Ireland are nuts. Chili Cooper with body kit cost just under €29k, that's 20k Sterling when you convert it. I'd probably have gotten a Cooper S for the same money in the UK, but as you say Rico, I'm not sure I don't just prefer the Cooper anyway - although I love that air intake :p

So decisions decisions - I think I'll stick with the chrome boot handle (cause it's a Cooper not an S) and go with the stripes. Stick with tradition!

Cheers!

Hi John ,
BRG/Blk was one colour combo I looked at as well before I settled on CR/Blk , one thing I speccd was ' sport suspension ' with Chilli pack , I had the option of Sport Plus but found it too ' hard ' for Ireland it was a decision I am glad I made , also I ordered a spare wheel as I had R90 16" wheels 'retrofitted ' with Non Runflat tyres again I find runflats terrible in Ireland ,much too stiff a sidewall , I must get around to putting a few photos up over the holidays , when is the car due ? I know Coopers are in very short supply for next year with all dealers looking for more quota , as regards price I agree there , I also could have got an S but personally I also prefer the MC for ' everyday ' use , anyway best of luck with the new car .

Hi Gerard!
And I ordered the Sports Plus suspension... well, we'll see. Worst case scenario I'll have to make a change but hopefully it won't be too rough. I can definitely see myself getting rid of the run-flats. I do a lot of country driving through the wilds of West Cork (down around Courtmacsherry and Clonakilty) and Kerry which is also why I went with the 16"s. With the twisty roads I hoped the sports suspension might be a little more fun, but we'll soon see!
As for the delivery time, well I ordered the car through Morrisson's of Cahir and it will be the first Mini they've ever sold. Apparently, I'm likely to get my picture in the Tipperary Star as a result! Because it's their first Cooper sale, and they're a new dealer, BMW had already allocated them a car for the first week of Feb (so I'm told) which they just needed to spec out, so hopefully I'll be jumping the queue somewhat. Picking the colour and spec was the hardest part of the whole transaction. By the way, isn't it interesting how many Waterford Minis there are in Cork? I also hear rumour that Keary's are taking on BMW and Mini, which should finally put some decent local competition in front of O'Leary's.
I'll definitely keep my eyes open for a CR/Black Cooper around from now on - the last time we had a Cork "meet" it was to arrange for a solicitor to throw 3 completely useless Ones back to O'Learys in 2003. Might be time to have a more positive gathering some time!

Good to hear from you - have a great Christmas!

Hi John .
I think you would have found a lot of changes at KOL , in the past there was almost apathy to MINI but now since the arrival of a dedicated MINI Manager Owen Kelly ( Ned78 on here ) and in conjuction with Andrew Oliver in Sales admin and Dave Kearney in Parts you now have a lot of ' MINI ' interested people there with a good degree of specialist knowledge , I must say I have been impressed with the transformation and from Spec time to delivery everything went like clockwork their end also they are now stocking lots of MINI aftermarket bits inc JCW , I think it took a while for people to realise they were not just selling a ' car ' they were selling a ' lifestyle ' and the typical MINI buyer had a knowledge of the product far in excess of the sales guys . I think that will be the test for Kearys next year -big difference from selling Toyota , anyway looking forward to seeing your car and don't forget MTM 05 which we are now planning (May weekend )

I think it looks cleaner w/out the chrome on the hatch, especially with the aero kit. Solid black bonnet stripes would be a nice touch.
Therein lies the great dilemma! I'm reminded of something a friend of mine says in such occasions: "Walk quietly and carry a big stick." That's kind of the effect I want to create here, nothing flash, but definitely not to be messed with

Gerard, that's good news about KOL - but they had a long way to come. The previous regime left a lot to be desired. I agree though, Dave in Parts is a top bloke with a great reputation around Cork too. I don't know Owen or Andrew, but it's good to see Owen's on line here. I see they had the Mini Club of Ireland there recently for the Convertible launch which was a good touch. The more Mini dealers in the city the better for us drivers I think. Also, and I think this was generally the case with many Mini dealers, the information that us owners were feeding them about what was happening with our cars was as you say a lot more than they knew themselves. First thing I did when I was dealing with Cahir for the new car was to suggest the swot up on Mini2.com and get to know their market - and I have to say, they've been great so far.

Re. MTM, I'm definitely interested. I surf a bit also, so it'd be a great oppotunity to put my stick on the roof and hit Strandhill, Rosnowlagh and Bundoran on the way up!

Stop now! It's so hard - I love my current car but can't wait for the new one. Oh well, big Christmas present for me!

What's funny is, I bet I get lots more Mini related christmas gifts again this year!

Anyhow,

Happy Christmas!
