Looking to get a Cooper S and have £8-9K to spend, seem plenty to choose from but as a newbie am starting to do some pre buying investigation and it seems many early models were plagued with a variety of problems.

Do BMW offer any kind of warranty or TLC kit for cars bought from third parties ie not directly from an authorised Mini dealership?

Also I understand that the early Cooper S had approx 163bhp, how much ££ does the JCW upgrade cost to get it to the 200bhp mark and can this now be retro-fitted at any dealership?

Have some owners found an alternative power upgrade kit that represents similar quality but is maybe more competatively priced?

Warranty Direct are who you should search for or the thread all about Warranty, as you'll see that they are a fraction of the price of MINI and will let you have all the work done with a MINI dealer;)

JCW kit will cost you about £3500 to have fitted, but on a used MINI thats far too much, have a look at GTT in the sponsor directory, think Roland can give you the same kind of treatment for about £1500.

But if you're wanting JCW you'd be better off buying a JCW car;)

You could go to a dealer! You will find that only a few MINIs are unreliable! and very few warranty claims are made!;)

WD seems the best route to go down.

Now back to the task in hand of picking a suitable car! so many to choose from :puzzled:

Maybe you should start a new thread saying something like what should a second hand cooper have or something like that. There is one about what to look for, but it depends on how old you want, but I'd start a new thread - different car, different needs!;)
