Hi,
Right then... Changed the clutch 3000 miles ago and all is good however the wife was driving yesterday and she reported a "pingy" noise then another "pingy" noise coming from the foot-well few seconds later. To her surprise when she went to change gear and the pedal had disappeared! (It had actually moved up towards the dash) so there was a few frantic foot movements until she found it. It still drives and changes gear OK albeit the clutch pedal comes back too far.
So when i got home and had a look I couldn't see any obvious broken or missing parts and what appears to be the clutch balance spring (looks like a very small coil over suspension unit) is pushing the clutch pedal the wrong way. Even though it is doing its job and making the clutch lighter when pressing the pedal, when releasing the pedal it comes back to the neutral position (level with the brake pedal) but then keeps going and finally stops when it hits the dash! Its almost as though there is a physical stop missing.
When I removed the balance spring the pedal sat at the correct position and yes you can still change gear although the clutch becomes heavier.
Could it be the clutch master cylinder returning too far or something more sinister!
Your help and suggestions are gratefully received
Many thanks...
