At ~75,000 miles, it looks like it's time for a new clutch in the Cooper S. It's not slipping, but the slight whir/chirp noise on cold mornings leads me to believe that I'll be ponying up for a repair soon.

Anyone from the Portland area care to weigh in on service options outside the local dealership network? Since this job is primarily labor, I'd love to hear suggestions for a shop that knows Minis and can beat the Rasmussen estimate of $1800. I'd also be happy to hear whether anyone thinks that this is a job for a dealership only.

Thanks!

Any competent shop can pull the tranny and replace the clutch. The only special tool is a plug to keep the tranny fluid from draining whren the axles are pulled.
