When I go to lower the convertible roof, the first stage with the sunroof opening happens okay. Then when I press it again for the top to lower, nothing happens. There are no red lights on and the parcel shelf at the back is in the correct position.

Close the roof and try again. (Sometimes maybe two more times)

This time the roof lowers completely, but the rear windows don't go back up, unless I press the window button to do this.

Close the roof completely and try again. Everything works okay!

Anyone else had this?

Yup - I've had this intermittently but it's always sorted itself out after lots of turning ignition off and faffing about with the parcel shelf (which is probably more for my benefit to keep me amused while I wait rather than actually achieving anything technical), until it rights itself. I've always put it down to just being my roof as I've had a few problems with it since i got it (probably because I bought the showroom model which had the roof down for 3 months which I think put it out of alignment).

I put up with it because I love my MIni (and even a faulty electronic roof is better than a manual one - nearly broke a finger on my MR2). Also find the dealer where I bought my Mini very unhelpful (took 4 goes to rectify the alignment problem) so it's not worth the hassle of complaining.

Anyone else??

yeah had it a few times, if it does this I tend to drop all the windows myself, then carry on with lowering the roof, then put all the windows up, this seems to clear and reset the system:)

Mini Convertible Roof Problems

Anyone had problems with Mini Cooper Convertible roof.

I am sick of ours. Roof works intermittently. Been backwards and forwards to dealer. Under warranty due to end in two weeks.

Rejected the vehicle to mini finance and they have asked for it to go back to dealer for review.

Dealer plugged into computer and as roof button pressed so many times was registering this as the fault. This has to be cleared and they are plugging in tomorrow!!!

Any one else had the same.

roof and leaks

My roof just shut down recently after three years of constant use. My service rep tells me "Oh yes, that can happen if you use it a lot" Ok.....isn't that the point of having it? Am I missing something? May cost up to $1,000 to fix. I have also had chronic leak issues almost since I bought it. Anyone else have leak issues? I have brought it in several times under warranty and now two more leaks after warranty will cost me over $700 a piece to fix. My estimate for bringing it in is $3,000. I actually cried. I didn't get a price reduction but I did get a quick loaner for the week it will be in the shop. I love this car but ouch!!!!

05 Mini Cooper Covertible Problem

Hi has anyone had the problem where only 1 side of the roof opens ??
I went to put the top down at the weekend and only the left side started to opem the Right staying shut. Fortunatly I noticed it straight away before putting too much strain on it. Tried it 3 or 4 more times but each time only the left side of the mechanism engaged.

Sounds like you need to take it to a convertible specialist or at least call a couple.
IIRC there are cables in both sides which release the "claws" and fold the roof back. It sounds like one of these has come away or broken as I believe there aren't separate motors - certainly there is only 1 fuse that I noticed when I was messing around with our MCSC today.

There's a handy set of videos on youtube, mini convertible top repair
There's only one motor, it drives a cable down each side that can pull out of it's crimp, I've just fixed ours. You need a smalllish (4mm) screwdriver, T20 & T30 Torx drivers, & the bit missing from said video, a small bottle of threadlock. It's bloody fiddly & took me longer than taking the subframe off.

my cooper convertable roof quit working and a mehcanic replaced a fuse to get it going again. He replaced a 5 amp fuse with a 10 amp fuse which I later read is not good to do. I'm on a road trip and it quit again. The problem is I'm not sure what fuse he replaced and their is no cover over the fuses to identify what is what and no skematics to read where I might replace this fuse. Short of paying a mehcanic big money to replace a simple fuse, How does one figure out which one it is.

I disconnected the battery and the top stoped working!! It only opens the sunroof! Please help!!!!
I've not owned a first generation convertible but I believe the roof of the second generation convertible is very similar and on one of those I would suspect that you have also moved the rear parcel shelf (while cleaning, maybe?) and that is what is stopping the roof from going past the sunroof position.

I have a 2005 mini cooper s convertible and my top has stopped working for like the 5th time! I push the button once & sunroof opens...i push it a second time & all i get is a flashing red light, wont open or go down. I have paid over $1000 & have had it in the shop several times for adjustment & they always say nothing is wrong with it. Works just fine for the dealer...i get it
back & doesnt work. Any advise??

When you push the button for the second time try pushing upwards on the central plastic bar above your head - might just be it needs a gentle help on its way. If that does work, then get some copper grease into all the hinges and brackets. Mine did this last year and has been fine ever since. Presuming that you have checked that the boot shelf is correctly in place?
