Our 1.6hdi engine in our car makes a noise like chuf chuf chuff. It comes from the rear of the engine as you look into the engine bay from the front , it is on the left . Anyone else had this or heard before ? It is always there and is the same volume whether first started up ir after a long journey. We need to sort it before we buy a new one .

Might be the flexi pipe or clamp. If so it should be a cheap fix :)

It sounds like something being driven, like the water pump or alternator. But thanks for input . We want to sell privately so want to get it sorted , unless anyone on here wants it ? £4850 in Ipswich Suffolk. Want to get a 5 door Hatchback Petrol . Trouble is they are all at main dealers and you know what that means . Would like a year old one about 20k miles.

Having topped up the washers today i listened to where the noise is coming from. It is behind the plastic cover on the left handside as you look into the bonnet . I presume the cover is over the drive belt , cambelt ? So could it be a water pump . Its made the noise for 2 years !

Probably the timing belt rubbing off the cover. Not ideal so I'd have this checked out asap because if the belt breaks then it's ta ta to the engine!

Its not a rubbing noise , i will take it to a Mini dealer eventually with a reason of looking for a replacement car. I will update when resolved.

i have a similar problem to this which i posted about yet no one replied. i cant post the URL , but i can post the whole embed link on vimeo. the sound comes from the same position as yours, to the left of the engine by the oil cap, kind of top left part of the engine. i dont think its the fuel injectors at all, yet it the chuff chuff.
