hello all

i have a october 2004 mini cooper convertible and i note that the gearbox more often than not crunches when put in reverse

i thought this woudl dissapear with the new gatreg gearbox ???

Is there something wrong with my car ????

Sounds like a dragging clutch, rather than a problem with the gearbox.

Reverse doesn't have syncromesh, so if the clutch doesn't disengage completely, selecting reverse will crunch.

Make sure you press the clutch fully and wait a moment before selecting reverse.

My 54 cooper does it too. Not all the time tho. As Malin says - depress the clutch all the way Quite a few of the other cars i have owned did this too.

A lot of people have complained on here about the reverse gear in the new Getrag gearbox, and I must admit it annoys me too sometimes.

As has been stated previously, just try to remember and depress your clutch fully for a few seconds before engaging reverse - whether you should have to do this at all is a different matter!

My mom has a 53 plate cooper (August 03 build) and her gearbox goes the same, even when the clutch is fully depressed, but this only happens sometimes???

I only feel a crunch in my left elbow in my MCS when trying to get reverse

its a bugger!!
