I changed from a petrol car to a diesel back in April, and several people have been saying.....

1. Petrol's still cheaper when you work out the difference in price (diesel's roughly 13p more a litre)
2. I need to do 20,000 miles a year to make diesel worth it...?

So based on 30litre's of dirty diesel or petrol:

Price of diesel...£1.30 x 30litre's=£39
Price of petrol....£1.17 x 30litre's=£35

£4 difference (well that was easy)

Now as a good example and speaking from experience...
45mpg average diesel (The Polo GT im driving now)
30mpg average petrol (My old C2 VTS)

1 gallon = 4.55 litre's
30/4.55= 6.6 Gallons
---------------------------------------
6.6 x 45 =297miles Diesel
6.6 x 30 =198miles Petrol
---------------------------------------

But then you've got the extra £4 to think about so if you spent another £4 on petrol your all thinking....:puzzled::hmph:

£4/1.17=3.4litre's..........which isn't even a gallon and your only gunna get 30 miles to a gallon. So the conclusion is even if you spent the extra £4 your still something like 60miles behind the diesel.....right!?

Or are my maths completley incorrect and I should of done something more constructive with the last 20mins of my life:confused::p
