Wondered if anyone knows?
I had a pipe burst on my 2006 R53 air con system a couple of years ago. Have finally got round to replacing the pipe, also a new condenser/drier was fitted and has been re gassed. According to the guy who gassed it, it is holding at the correct pressure.
However when i switch the aircon on, the compressor does not come on. It has climate control, the green light stays on solid to say all is good but no cold air and no compressor!
I have just tested the first stage fan which I believe is also supposed to come on when the air con is on, and this does not work. The second stage is fine and comes on at 112 degrees.
Does anyone know specifically if the first stage fan doesn’t come on, will it stop the compressor starting up?

Further to my last post, no, the clutch does not engage and there is no movement from it at all. I have checked the relay and thats ok.
Is it likely that the 1st stage fan not working will prevent the compressor from starting up? Or something else?

Just an update to the fix of my air con. With the bumper and crash bar off and just the top rad hose disconnected there is enough space to pull the rad forward and get to the resistor.
Once this was replaced I had a quick look at the compressor to find that the plug wasn’t properly connected!
So in answer to my original question, I can only surmise that the first stage fan not working was what caused it to overheat and burst a pipe in the first place however due to the plug being disconnected(most likely at the garage where the new pipe and condenser were fitted recently) I can’t be sure that the blown fan resistor actually stopped the system from working!
Fan is now working as it should and aircon too ?
